Starting a 3-ring binder for each of your children is a wonderful,
timesaving idea!
Here are some tips for that:
- Choose a different color binder for each child
- Make sure it has the pockets on the inside of the binder
- As you receive are the all the telephone numbers for the
school and special notices for the school year i.e.:
- Snow day procedure
- Days out of school for vacation or conferences
- Put these in the first section of the notebook.
As papers are brought home to sign, place them in the pockets
of the binder. Then in that last 5-minute mad rush for the door,
when someone says, “I have to have that paper back today
or I don’t get to go on the field trip”, you know
exactly where that paper is.
In the second section put sports, music, clubs etc. If your
child is in band, soccer and girl scouts, use a separate divider
for each.
If you start at the beginning of the school year, it will be
easier to keep up with. And having a place for papers and knowing
where they always go is a huge timesaver.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about kid’s
rooms-they have taken our lead and have too much stuff. How do
you corral it? Kid’s stuff is no different from adult stuff.
First, sort and donate or toss the things that aren’t
of interest any more. Then figure out a place to put the remaining
stuff-do this with your child if you want them to be responsible
for putting it away.
It takes 3 weeks to make something a habit, so when you have
gotten everything in it’s place, set a specific time to
tidy up everyday. It can be done. Put it in the schedule just
like homework and stick with it! Everyone likes order, but if
you can’t have a butler to hand things to, make the amount
of stuff more manageable and then find a spot for it.

Tired of the way your family room looks? Redesign it!
Paint is the easiest and most inexpensive way to give a room
a great new look. There are some good computer programs out that
will show what the color looks like on the walls and now several
companies are selling sample bottles so you can see it in your
room with your furniture without buying a whole gallon of paint.
You removed the furniture for painting, so when you put it back,
find the main focal point or create a new one and place the largest
piece of furniture facing the focal point. Keep adding furniture
until you have the feel you want. Then start adding lamps, artwork
and finally accessories. Take things from other rooms to give
a new look. Remember, you’re not spending money on a new
room, you’re creating a new look with what you already
have. Mix it up!

Selling?
Remember, Clean sells best! Take a little money and have a cleaning
service come in and really scrub your house. Have the carpets
professionally cleaned. When the furniture has been moved, don’t
put it all back. Give a prospective buyer room to imagine what
they would do with the room. Don’t forget the curb appeal!
If you are in a group in the South Metro Area, that meets regularly
and has guest speakers, I am always ready to talk about getting
organized. Please call me if you need a speaker.
